Readers Research

Dear readers,

This year we will read a fiction book that is based on a true story. The book takes place in Sudan, a war torn country in Africa. It is a glimpse into the tribal culture and the effects of war on civilians. 6th graders found themselves enthralled by the characters and setting and would go home at night and research Sudan and the tribes in the book. They read articles, looked at maps, and watched documentaries. In short, they built their knowledge to better understand what was going on in the book, and they let their curiosity drive their learning. As a teacher this was a pivotal moment where my students were actively pursuing their learning and their excitement was contagious.

Personally, I am curious about a lot of different subjects and love reading articles. My curiosity about the world leads me to travel and learn about the history and culture of different places around the world. I am not able to travel everywhere or all the time, so often times I research about places or read fiction books that take me to places I may never see, and I feel as if my world expands through reading. I also do rather extensive research when planning a trip. Researching before hand helps me use my time wisely in a new place by exploring the places that most interest me and also will give me a sense of the current culture. I read blogs, reviews, articles, and check out travel books from the library.

In addition, I enjoy watching and playing sports. I often times look up inspiring athletes or articles about important games. As a former college athlete, I do not officially play a sport anymore, but I thoroughly enjoy knowing what is going on in the sports world. Researching historical figures and events, different places to travel, and sports in general are all subjects I am curious about and I enjoy expanding my knowledge and therefore my world.

What subjects would you research and why? What sparks your curiosity? What do you wish you knew more about?

I hope everyone is having a great summer!

  1. Just like you Ms. Sikes, I love researching sports. Generally I like researching players that I am fond of. Sports interest me as well as sports players because I like to play sports too. I usually look up certain things about my favorite sports players and coaches. For example, I look at some helpful and inspiring quotes so I can try to apply that in a game or practice when I am playing sports myself. I think that I usually look up things that so I can improve my skills in the sports and follow other people's lead. I also like researching other things but, researching sports grabs my attention the most because of the things I see on television before I research it. I watch sports on television all the time and sometimes I see something that is so awesome that I just have to look it up and find out more about it or watch it again. For example, the other night I was watching the sixth Golden State Warriors vs. Cavaliers basketball game and there was this incredible play! The Cavaliers got a steel and a guy had a break away all the way down the court but then this guy got in front of him and the guy who was dribbling made a backwards pass to LeBron James who was sprinting down the court behind him and LeBron dunked it! It was awesome! The next morning I got on the internet and researched the highlights of that game. I found some replays and watched them over and over again. My mom said that it was cool how the guy who made the pass used his peripheral vision. I had heard that word before but I was not sure what it meant so I asked her. She said it is the part of your vision where you can see something without looking directly at it. That was cool because I learned something new when I had not meant to. Researching sports is fun, interesting and helps me improve when playing sports myself!

  2. My favorite type of reading is hisorical fiction based in the civil war. Like in rifles for watie, the main character goes behind the lines of the confederte soilders to gather info to help the union and right before he goes back to tell the what he found he gets sick. he has to power through sickness to go about fifty miles to the union camp. Reading about the civil war helps me learn more about it.

  3. I have a wide variety of topics I like to research, and I have an open mind to really almost anything, but I have 3 top favorites; Famous individuals, solutions for making our world a better place, and international foods. Even though these topics may seem out of the ordinary, and have nothing to do with one another, they are very intriguing to me.
In fourth grade I did many projects on famous individuals. For example, I researched Milton Hershey (founder of Hershey’s) and I loved it! There are people out there these days that are very inspiring, and have a story that is connected to them. I would like to learn more about people involved in the civil rights movement, like Martin Luther King Jr.
In fifth grade, I made a personal goal to try to learn all I could about recycling, and how to preserve energy. I wrote 2 papers about it, and one even got published in the BizTown Newspaper. I would like to learn more about animal danger and how to help.
I have always loved to cook and bake but I think it is even more fun to be influenced by a certain country. Last night I made chicken quesadillas with sauteed onions and peppers inside of it for my grandparents and family. This idea came from the country of Mexico. I would like to learn how to cook more Asian/Japanese food. There are so many new things I would like to learn about. Researching is one of my most favorite things to do in Language Arts.

  4. I love researching things and expanding my knowledge. I would have to narrow my favorite 3 topics. Civil Rights Movement, History, and Animals.

I love History. I also love going on ancestory.com and look through my family tree. I did a big project on Sacajawea in 4th Grade. I thought that I learned much from reading books and researching different websites on the Topic Sacajawea. When we learned about the Civil War in 4th Grade we went on different field trips. One of the field trips I went on was to the Carter House. During this field trip I have learned many things. Learning that they had to go to the basement to stay safe.

Another one of my favorite topics to research is Civil Rights Movement. In 5th Grade Mrs.Pierson and Mr. Siegle taught us about the Civil Rights Movement. We researched websites, read books and magazines, watched movies and brain pop videos. I learned that Martin Luther King fought for what he thought was right also Martin led marches too. I learned that just from reading one magazine!

My last favorite topic is Animals. I will sit at the computer and research a specific animals for hours and hours and make a poster for that animal. I love researching animals because their are new types of animals being discovered every day! I love reading about animals and learning about their habitat, what they eat, and where they live.

Those are some of my favorite topics to research.

  5. There are plenty of topics that I personally would research, but if I had to chose the top two then one of them would be movies. I really love knowing what is going on in movie making. For example, I enjoy going on websites that include rottentomatoes.com and commensensemedia.com. I like these websites because they tell me how good movies are and what critics around the U.S.A. think of them. I would research this topic because it is something that will really get me thinking. I also would also research this topic because I would like to create a movie of my own one day. This topic sparks my curiosity because movies are projects where people put their imaginations to work, and I really love that. People work very hard to make something that the whole world can see. I would like to know more about what it is like to be a director. I mean that I want to know how crazy and weird a director's work is. That is a topic that I would research.
The other topic that I would research would be Dinosaurs. The reason that I would research this topic is because I have seen almost all of the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World movies. Once I saw the movies my interest in Dinosaurs climbed higher. I even got a Lego video game version of the movies. Then I started becoming interested in knowing all of the different types of Dinosaurs. What was also interesting is that I had a friend who shared the same interest as me, so we would have little chats about the topic. I would research Dinosaurs because they are creatures that we don't know that much about and I really want to know what special features they had. Dinosaurs spark my curiosity because they are creatures that once ruled the Earth. What I want to know is what did they do, what were their life cycles? Those are the topics that I would research.

  6. There are many things I would like to research, One of my favorites is sports. I love sports. My favorite sport is basketball, to watch and to play. I research things about sports so I can learn more about what is happening in the world of sports. I also research things about players like what they do to practice and how they got really good, to help me become better at sports. My favorite player to research about is Allen Iverson. I like to research about him because he was not very tall for a basketball player and he had this one crossover move that would make everyone that guarded him fall down. I wanted to learn how to do this to make me better.

Another topic I love to research a lot about is the Titanic. I love the Titanic because it was this huge ship that everyone said was unsinkable, but it sank on its maiden voyage. This really made me curious about why everyone said it was unsinkable. I also didn’t know why they made so little lifeboats in case it sank. I am also really curious about this ship that was only a few miles away didn’t come and save the Titanic, It could have safely rescued everyone. I love to research things about the Titanic like How long did it take to build?, How tall is it/, and How many people it could carry.

  7. I really enjoy expanding my knowledge through research, but if I had to pick my favorite topics, they would have to be sports, wars, and nature.

I play 5-6 different sports, so I love to research different strategies that the best, most successful athletes use to help them compete at a high level. I also love to learn more about what happened in the beginning of each sport, when they were just getting started. When you do that, you find the revolutionary people that helped come up with new ideas that have made their sport great. Vince Lombardi, for example, was the coach of the Green Bay Packers when the NFL was just getting started. The Packers had not been very good early on, but when Lombardi arrived, he immediately changed the culture of the team. They worked harder than any other team, they were more focused than any other team, and because of that, they won more championships in the early years of professional football than any other team. That is, to me, the beauty of football, and of sports in general. Vince Lombardi revolutionized sports. It is fun to research about sports to learn about things like that.

I love researching about wars because wars aren't a battle between soldiers, they are a battle between brains. It really is about who can do what the enemy doesn't expect and who can plan their attack more carefully. But, when all brains fail, and plans don't work, it really comes down to the bravery of the soldiers. And that bravery is endless. An incredible example of that bravery was on June 6, 1944, better known as D-Day, or Doomsday. The Allied forces were invading the coast of Normandy on their way to liberate France and eventually Germany from Nazi rule. But, the German army had covered the hills just beyond the beach with bunkers that had huge machine guns that covered every possible angle of invading the beaches. There was no cover on the beaches, and so the soldiers, for a very good reason, wouldn't go out into certain death without a flyover bombing of the German bunkers. But the night they had picked to invade the beaches was very foggy, and as the planes were flying over the bunkers, they didn't know that they were over the targets because of the fog. They ended up missing the targets by thousands of yards, but the soldiers still had to go out into the German death trap and fight. And they did. And most of them died, but they died not just for their country, but for the freedom of other countries. That is the beauty of researching about wars, to truly appreciate what those people do for you.

I love researching about nature because it is so intricate. It all fits together, every millionth piece, in a perfect puzzle God has made for us to solve. That to me is absolutely incredible , that we have ruined 99% of all of the life on Earth and that one percent is what we have now. That is unfathomable, that God would know that his people would destroy billions of pieces of his puzzle and there still to be another smaller puzzle, inside of the bigger one, just in case. Just in case we messed up. And boy, did we ever. But even though we haven't been their for God, God is always there for us. And nature research is just the solving of God's puzzle, which is a beautiful step into service of Him. That is why I love researching nature.

  8. My favorite thing to research is war. Not because of blood and guts, but because of the reasons why war is started and about all the people who fought in it. It amazes me that people will risk there lives to save people they don't know and probably will never meet. I've always been interested in topics about sacrifice, hatred, and love. The one thing I don't understand is the hatred... Take whats happening around the world, what did we do to make people angry enough to set off bombs, or purposely harm another human being for know reason. Some people might think they know why people do some of the things they do, but do they really or is it just something they heard on CNN.
Although I say my favorite thing to research is war I still wish I knew more about it. Like how people can have enough courage to go fight in war. Or the reason behind why Adolf Hitler targeted one group, maybe more people were involved. There are a lot of things I don't understand about war and would like to learn more about.

  9. I love to research interesting topics, for example the
holocaust is a very interesting topic,I like to learn more and more about. The thought of someone treating people who are different is just sickening to think about but it is also a very interesting and serious topic. Another thing I like to research,is what is going on in this world right now and how it can be fixed, or how people are trying to fix it. Those topics are very important to know so i advise you o do some research on those as well.

  10. I personally like to research places, mostly places I would like to travel to like France, Jamaica, or the Caribbean. I like to research places because I enjoy learning about different cultures and what different places are known for. What’s great about researching places is that there are so many to chose from and they're all different in their own ways, which is great. Learning about different places is a fun way to expand your knowledge and it makes you want to travel there (And it’s easier to convince my parents to go there if I know more about it).
Last year in reading we learned some about places, but not much. While reading the book The Cay we learned a little about a small island named Curacao which is a small, beautiful island in the Southern Caribbean. But this year I hope we will learn more about places because it is a subject I love to learn about.

  11. I love to research places I want to live in. I think it would be really fun to live in Australia because you can sand board. Or how I would like to live in South America because I love to study nature. one reason I love to research places is because It makes me want to live there more. I love getting to know more about the way people do things all around the world. like how in Australia they use vegemite instead of salt in many dishes. But also if you don't end up moving to those places you can still learn many cool facts about there country. That is why different countries is my favorite subject to research.

  12. I have many topics that I would love to learn about. I have never thought about researching different subject that wanted to know more about. Some different topics are basketball strategies, strange animals, and Apple electronics.
I would love to research about basketball strategies because basketball is one of my favorite sports. I am always looking for a way to improve my game. By researching this I could really be smoother with the ball, or make my shots better. I am going to start researching this.
I would also love to research about stance animals. I would love to research this because I want to know and learn about stance animals. Like, Where did they come from, what are they, and what do they do or look like. Like, where did their name come from. That would be really cool the research. I am definitely researching this.
I would also love to research about Apple electronics. I have lots and lots of questions about Apple. I have been wondering how did somebody thinks of that. i think that would be super fun and interesting.

  13. If I could research anything it would definitely would be orcas and dolphins. Dolphins have always been my favorite animal, but recently I have taken interest in orcas. I would like to find out how these animals survive in the ocean. What they eat, where the typically live, and predators they avoid.
I would also enjoy researching natural disasters. Hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, and so many other horrible things happen in the world. For some reason I have always found these storms interesting. I think it would be a lot of fun to research how they are fromed, what causes them, how much damage can they do, my list could go on and on!
One last thing I would like to research is machines. When I say machines I mean a machine that gives ice cream at McDonalds. I have always wanted to know by how simply pulling a lever can make ice cream appear. I would like to know how the machines are made and how the ice cream can come out of them.

  14. When I am planning on researching a topic for fun usually the first thing that comes to my mind is researching famous musicians or actors because I love playing french horn, percussion instruments, and piano. I also love singing and acting. I enjoy researching those topics because I get to learn more about these famous people who enjoy the same things as I do. My favorite part about researching famous musicians and actors is learning about their early life because they might have liked playing the same sports as me or done other things that I am interested in. I even liked researching musicians and actors when I was four. When I was four I LOVED Shirley Temple and watching all of her movies that she was in such as, “Heidi”. I was even Shirley Temple for famous people day in kindergarten! Also my four year old birthday party was Shirley Temple themed. I will always love researching famous musicians and actors.
One subject that sparks my curiosity is probably learning about inventors. This topic sparks my curiosity because I am a very curious person and I ask the question “who invented the…….???” Most people know inventors such as, Henry Ford and Thomas Edison but, I would like to know about more inventors that are not as popular.
I think that if I had to pick three topics to research they would be famous musicians, actors, and inventors. Those are three topics that I wish I knew more about and wish I knew I knew about.

  15. I love to research a lot about sports. I will always look up how to do something that I am unsure of doing. Like in softball, I like to look up how pitch faster then I normally do. Also how to throw a curve ball, or a change up. Or in basketball I look up how should I end when shooting. Also I look up how to post up on player if I ever have to be a post player. (I usually play guard.) I also took up things in soccer. I like to look up how to kick a stronger kick. I also look up how to do moves that I am not taught. You can always get better at something your good or bad at, just keep trying at it.
I am very curious about learning more about a topic taught in school either if I had a question or would like to know more about something. Like in reading, I was reading The Cay. I wanted to know more about where and what the setting was like. Like how was living there hard or easy? Or how was there living against our living? How is their daily life vs. ours? Those are the topics I wish i knew more about.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I really enjoy doing research on animals. I love learning things like how fast a penguin can swim, or how hard a crocodile can bite. I think these things are interesting because some animals have special was of hunting or blending in. For example, the alligator snapping turtle is to slow to catch fish. It hunts with its mouth open and with their tongue. Their tongue is shaped like a worm and the fish try to eat it. I would like to know more about octopi and how they can imitate other fish or snakes, or I would like to learn more about stingrays and why they are flat. Those are some of the topics that I would like to look up.

Researching topics is a fun way to dig in and learn information. All of the research last year on war was very interesting as well as the science research. Learning is more fun when there are interesting facts to fit into the subject. My mom makes me garden with her and now its a little more fun knowing how the ecosystem all works together. I watch all the worms break up the dirt when I dig and now I leave them alone to do their part. On my own, I enjoy reading my sports illustrated and finding out interesting stories behind all sports figures. I also love reading and learning about different animals in different areas.

  18. A subject I enjoy researching is history because I think it is important to know what happened before us because it could help us make decisions later in life. I also just enjoy learning about it. What sparks my curiosity is war history, specifically the Revolutionary War because so many interesting things happened in it. I wish I knew more about wildlife because I think it is one of the most broad and interesting topics to learn about.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I enjoy researching animals, because it expanded my knowledge about nature and how the world woks. In third grade we wrote a nonfiction article about an animal in the rain forest. My animal was a toucan. I enjoyed that unit in writing so much.
This summer I went to the beach, and there were some classes that you could take. I went crabbing and clamming. I learned all about crabs and clams. I was so interested in them I am going to write a article about them. I also took a class on sea turtles. I am also writing am article on them.

  20. I would love to research parrots, parakeets, and other pet birds. The main reason why is because I used to have pet birds, but sadly they died. Then I started learning about why they could have died and what makes them happy. I learned some really interesting things. I learned that the bird food from stores shortens their life span. I also learned that if you don't get them a cage mate they can get territorial.

  21. I would enjoy researching explosives. I want to do research about explosives because I am interested in chemical reactions and what causes the explosives to be so dangerous. I would also like to know who invented which ones and when. I believe this is an interesting topic to research and that is why I would want to learn more about them.

  22. If I were to research a topic it would be American History. I love intriguing documents from the beginning of our country’s history, such as the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. These items spark my interest because they are historical and apply to our country today. I have also learned from researching in social studies that our country has learned from many mistakes. For example, when our founders wrote the Constitution they didn’t outlaw slavery. This led to the enslavement of many innocent black people. I wish I knew more about why this happened. When the slaves were freed after the Civil War, they still did not have all of the same freedoms the white people had. This eventually led to the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950-60’s. Our country is still learning from these mistakes today.
I wish I knew more about the backgrounds of different authors. I have read many books by many wonderful authors but I haven’t really taken the time to research how, when, or why they became writers. Researching about authors sparks my interest because I could learn helpful writing techniques that I don’t know about. Even though writing isn’t my favorite thing to do, I can learn different things that help me become a better writer. Researching American History and discovering fascinating things about authors is exciting because I never know what I might find out!

  23. If I could research any topic it would be Human Biology. I would study Human Biology because I am interested in learning about the brain and bones. Studying the brain would be interesting because I would like to learn about how your mind develops its thoughts. I would also like to know why Deja Vu happens. The reason I would like to study the bones is because bones are everywhere in your body, and I would like to know how many bones you have in your legs and arms. The reason that Human Biology interest me is because one day I would like to become a doctor. That is why I would study Human Biology.

  24. A Lot of topics interest me, but my favorite one is the British culture. I follow many different blogs of different girls who live in London. I search Netflix for different documentaries and TV shows to watch on rainy days. I love to learn about different castles and royal families. I try to stuff as many facts about Henry the 8th and different queens and kings before him and way after his time in my head. Last summer I went to Europe and loved it and can't wait to go back!

  25. If I could research one topic it would be dogs. I love dogs, my family owns three dogs that I absolutely love. I have heard that dogs can since weather and smell thunderstorms, I would love to know how they do that. Also I would love to know how dogs show feelings and communicate other than barking and wagging their tails. I think that dogs are very interesting animals, and definitely one of my favorite creatures.

  26. For as long as I can remember, three completely different subjects have drawn me to a book for hours at a time. These topics are fun, intriguing, exciting, and informative all at once.
First, Rabbits. Since second grade, I wanted to know more about small animals, and their role on earth. I started making slideshows and presenting them to family and friends, sharing my part of the story. Rabbits were a very big act in the scene. Their fluffy tails and long ears made me wonder so much about what could actually be under that soft coat of fur. My curiosity led me to research night after night. Four years later, I now own my own rabbit named Piper. Today, I can answer any question about rabbits. Max age? 8-12 years. Oldest rabbit on earth is named Do, and was 17 years before she passed away. Rabbit questions? You know who to ask.
Second, lacrosse. COMPLETELY different, yet both rabbits and lacrosse somehow spark my interest in their own ways. Lacrosse has always been a big part of my life. My cousins, sister, aunts, uncles, and I play/played lacrosse. My sister, Kate, is a big role model. She is on the A team at her school, and is the #1 defender. I researched more about lacrosse, and I learned some crazy new facts. For example, did you know that lacrosse is the fastest game played on two feet? I then started watching videos night after night, learning new techniques and drills that would help me become a better player. Now, I play as the goalie for 5th and 6th grade lacrosse.
Third (and last) is the human brain. I have always been intrigued about how it works, the different parts of the brain, and what has changed about the brain over the past centuries. I have been researching this topic for only a couple months now, but I feel like I know more helpful strategies about learning new things, and how to keep them in my mind. I not only learn about becoming a better learner, but I also know about the different parts of the brain. Did you know that the brain contains about 86 BILLION nerve cells.
I would love to learn more about pigs, basketball, gardening, and the civil war era. I also wish that I knew more about football, because it is very exciting and popular.

  27. What sparks my interest are the legacies behind MLB baseball stadiums. Last year I went to the Boston Red Sox stadium. I learned lots about the history behind the team and the stadium. One thing I learned is that the Boston Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees. After they sold him, the Boston Red Sox could not win a game against the Yankees. Another thing I learned was that the Boston Red Sox was playing the Yankees in the 1975 World Series, and the Yankees were winning by two points, and the Red Sox were up to bat with two people on base. The catcher, Carlton Fisk, was up to bat. He hit a three-run home run that hit the foul pole, so it counted, and they won the game 7-6. The coolest thing was that they named the foul pole Fisk Foul Pole because of his walk off home run. Interesting facts like that make me want to learn about different MLB teams' histories and the legacies of their stadiums. This weekend I'm going to New York City to watch the New York Yankees play the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. I hope to learn more about the Yankees stadium and team history.

  28. I like to research acting, places, and mythology. I have been in many productions for the past 3 years and always like to research and see how to become a better actor. I really like researching places because I am always so intrigued about the place's history and about its culture. Mythology has always been my favorite topic to research because I have always wondered why people thought there was the mermaid or the phoenix. I just got back from Croatia and there is a lot of history there. Croatia is a country that has never wanted to fight any other country. I also just finished a production this summer I did a three week acting camp with The Nashville Children's Theater and we did Aladdin Jr. I got a lot of experience doing that because everyday we would come to camp and start working on our production.

  29. If I could only research only one thoughtful subject, it would be, economics. I love hearing about how people that have big dreams and wonderful ideas become famous or successful if you will. The start out with everyone doubting them. But in the long run, they are just brilliant. I love hearing about the financial issues and how they solve them. I was an accountant for BizTown in fifth grade so I have a little professional experience in this department. I'm awfully glad to have the chance to know how to deal with loans and financial difaculties for the future.

  30. If I could only research one topic it would be medical science. I am totally biased because both of my parents are doctors so it seems most natural to me to hear about their days at work and about their most gruesome cases. Although this might seem like a bad thing at first they are actually highly interesting! My mom must go into very high detail so when I ask a simple question (like what are these symptoms) my mom seems to give me a whole hour lecture on such a small detail. By the time I leave I will probably be a n expert on the symptoms of a headache! Although i might sound like I am boring your I assure you I enjoy it very much, and when I am older I plan to go into a medical field such as dermatology!

  31. There are many topics I love to research, but my favorite it to research other countries. I love to see things like what food they eat there and the animals they have. I also would love to research what jobs people do there and some things that they do for fun and on a rainy day. I also love to research which languages they speak and which countries border each other. I love to study countries and hope to research more about them.

  32. What sparks my interest is World War II, including the Holocaust and POW camps. The reason I want to learn more about this period of history is because everything I've read about it has been full of so much that's evil and twisted. I've wondered why the German military was so cruel because that's a ton of opinion from one person (Hitler) to sway so many people to his view on people in the world. How did one person have that much impact?

  33. If I could research any topic I would choose animals. I would choose them because I would like to know what type of temperature certain types of animals like to live in, how animals like jaguars can climb trees, what is the animal can swim the fastest, why some snakes that are poisonous have arrow shaped heads, or how fast can alligators run. There are many things about animals that I don't know about and would like to learn.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The topic I would research would be animal instincts. I think it would be really cool to know how animals get the ability to do things that help them survive. For example, I think it is cool that mountain lions have the autimatic ability to climb mountains and hunt their prey. All animals have cool instincts that I would like to learn about. I really wish I knew more about animal instincts.

  35. Personally I like to research problems in the world. I feel it is important to be connected to the World. This also encourages me to reach out to those in need. Even if it is just in my community. I know that I just helped the world take a step forward. A very, very tiny step. Eventually a lot of tiny things make a big thing.
I find this so interesting because I am so fortunate and sometimes I think everybody lives the same way. It breaks my heart to see that our World is terribly different than I think. Did you know that around 600,000 people are homeless just in America. It is just terrible to think about. When you have an awareness of things like that it makes you appreciate things that you already have.
Just today I was in Costco and I wanted something than I realized that I am so fortunate I did not need that thing I wanted. Why do we thrive for more when we have so much? That is what sparked my interest in this Topic.

  36. If I could research any topic it would be sports. I like to research my favorite teams as well as players and coaches. I love playing sports and I know a lot about them. My favorite sport is basketball. So I usually research basketball topics. When I research sports I usually learn about the history of the sport and how it effected the game today. I also see records that people have such as Wilt Chamberlin's record breaking 100 point game during the 1960-1961 NBA season. A record that still stands today. I enjoy researching sports because I learn about rules to the game I did not know or important trades that help the team win a championship. What sparked my interest in this topic is watching sports a lot and realizing that I was pretty good at them. Even though I know a lot about sports I know there is a lot to learn.

  38. If I could research any topic it would be insects. I really enjoy learning things like what a certain insect's purpose is or how an insect has adapted to its environment. This topic sparks my curiosity because most people see insects as creepy annoying bugs, but all of them have a purpose. about a year ago this topic would have been my last choice for one reason I hate spiders. This drove me to avoid any type of insect no matter what it did or looked like, but after I went to camp in North Carolina for the first time I have had a interest in everything involving insects. I have been curious about what insects eat, where they live, the different climates they live in. Insects are amazing creatures and what they do goes unnoticed by us every day. I can learn new things about insects just by walking outside. In my eyes insects are the most amazing creatures and everyone should just take a moment and just do a tiny but of research on insects, there is so much to learn.

  39. Something that sparks my curiosity and that I would like to research is cars. One thing I would like to know about cars is how they are made. Another thing I would like to know is what technology is used to make cars. I would also like to know how many brands of cars there are. It would be cool to see how the brands of cars get their names. I am interested in researching what the fastest car in the world is and how fast it goes. I want to know where each car is made and how long it took to make it. These are some questions about cars that I'd like to know more about.

  40. I love to research many different things but my top 3 favorite would be animals, the history behind things, and foods.
I like researching animals because there's so much to research. Where they live, what they eat, how they look, and so much more! Every since I was a baby I loved animals. In third grade we all got a rainforest animal to research, and I got chimpanzee. It was so fun and now I know a lot about chimpanzees.
I also enjoy researching, the history behind things, because it's putting more information in your mind about what you're eating, doing,or where you are. An example would be, in fourth grade I researched Walt Disney, which told me a lot about the history behind Walt Disney World, and Disneyland.
My final third favorite thing to research is food. I like doing this because I love to cook. So doing this really shows me what I am eating when I cook stuff. It also gives me ideas to cook. I also like researching international foods. I like doing this because it is so different from the everyday foods we eat. An example is that we may eat chicken and rice 3 times a month, whereas in some countries, people eat that 3 times a day.
Those are my top 3 favorite things to research, because they teach me things that i may know but the person sitting next to me may not.

  42. Although it is not my all time favorite topic it is in the top three. Fly fishing I love tp fly fish. I find it very interesting how you can make a fly out of a 12 weight hook a wine bottle cork and a few chicken feathers and catch a world record 200 pound barracuda. I love fly fishing so much that every year I go to a Ranch that I have been going to since I was little and I would always go fly fishing. I also think its very interesting how far it dates back. It even dates back to a chinese proved if you feed a man a fish he eats for a day but if you teach him to fly fish you feed him for a lifetime. These are a few reasons I love fly fishing.

  44. I would enjoy researching lots of topics, but I love sharks. I would really enjoy learning about a predator like them, because some people only know them as scary things that will eat you. If we got to know them and there behavior they would not be so scary. I really wish I new more about them because then when I go in the ocean and I'm our swimming I won't be scared. I think if I new more about the animals it would be fun to see them, and watch shows about them.

  45. There are many different topics that grab my attention. If I had to pick my favorites, they would be cars, space, and dinosaurs. I've always wondered what it would be like to create a new kind of car, discover a new planet, or to go back in time and see dinosaurs in real life. I wonder what it's like to live on a shuttle for a year. I get homesick at overnight camp for two weeks! The more I learn, the more I want to learn. Cars, Space, and Dinosaurs are what interests me the most

  46. I like to research many things, but I really like to research professional athletes. It is neat to see what type of city these players grew up in. If they lived normal lives or in poverty. It's really cool to see players who suffered adversity either in their personal lives or with an injury; and then coming back to make a huge impact in the sports world.

For example, Pugs can not stay in hot weather for too long, or they will over heat. Researching dogs sparks my curiosity, by how each breed’s culture and necessities affect their lifestyle. I wish I knew more about how they know how to sit, jump, and do other actions that take training. I love dogs, and researching about them really sparks my day.

There were many times when my family was driving and the bison were in a big open field next to the road. I want to know more about bison.
