What story do you want to tell?

Dear writers,

For this blog I want to step away from writing about reading, and I want you to simply write. Choose a small moment from your summer and tell the story. Think about what good stories include. Maybe they have a particular focus, theme, or lesson? Descriptive setting and language? Dialogue? Action? Internal thinking?

I am traveling to Portland, Oregon on Friday with one of my brothers, and I hope to have a few stories to tell when I return. When I decide what story to write, I will think about WHY it matters to me. I always do best when I care deeply, but sometimes I have to search a bit to get there. I cannot wait for the adventures and letting the stories come to me!

For this particular blog post, you may want to go through the writing process and take your time!

Plan
Draft
Revise
Edit
Then post and publish!

I hope everyone is having a summer full of wonderful stories to tell! I cannot wait to read about what matters to you.

  1. Fireworks

    “Dad!!” I said anxiously.
    “What?!” He replied.
“Do you know what time it is?”
    “7:30?” Questioned my dad.
“No, It’s time to do the fireworks!!!!” I screamed.
“Alright.” my dad said. I was so excited I couldn't even wait to light the fountains that we got. The fireworks that we got this year weren't like the little lady bugs or roman candles that we had gotten the years prior, we had the fountains that would go 12 feet in the air!!
I ran to my brother (who loves fireworks) and told him that my dad would light the fireworks tonight!! So my dad, brother, and I got my sister and mom to come outside and watch the fireworks. We were trying our best to be discreet because it’s illegal to do fireworks in Franklin even though many of our neighbors had done them the night before.
My dad went into our garage and got one of the fountains out of the brown paper bag. He walked to the end of our driveway. He carefully lit the firework and ran back to where we were standing. For the First three or four seconds the firework was fine, but then it blew up and the flames and went six or seven feet into the air before the firework fell over. In which it then started to shoot sparks 360 degrees around it. So it now is not only shooting flames at our house but also at my neighbor's house. Then, out of nowhere, the firework blew up. After all of that the firework was still on fire.
“AHHH!” My mom screamed and ran inside. She quickly grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. That night we soaked the firework in water to make sure it wouldn't catch on fire while we were asleep.
From this experience I have learned that fire is very dangerous. I have also learned that I will only see fireworks at a show and not in my driveway.

  2. “Come on let’s go see if there is a fish on the line?” I say as we are running over to the fishing rod that was left inside a boot on the dock.
“Do you think there will be a fish?” asks Lauren.
“No, but we can check,” I say as I step on the dock.
I step over and pull on the rod, and to my surprise there is a fish pulling on the line.
I yell “ FISH ON!!! Someone go get my dad”
“You go get your dad, I’ll take the rod” says Lauren.
“Fine,” I say as I run inside. When I get inside I yell “We caught a fish someone help.”
I run outside thinking that someone will come outside behind me but no one does. So I go back in and tell everyone the same thing again. Finally my dad comes outside and helps us get the fish back into the water.
Once my dad goes inside I find my brother then tell him what happened. My brother tells me that his friend had left the rod there in the hopes of finding a fish.
All I could say was “ Well we caught a fish.”

  3. This summer my family and I traveled to Destin, Florida for the 11u baseball World Series. The first day we lost the first three games, which gave us a low seed in the tournament. After those three games my teammates and I knew we had to preservere and battle back to the championship. The first game of the second day we played the Texas Eclipse. They were a good team but we knew in our minds that we were better. We were the away team so we had to bat first. There were 2 outs and I was up to bat, I said to my friend Kaden, "Once I get on base you better hit me in."
Kaden said back to me, "It would be better if you just hit a homer."
and that is what I did. My home run made the game 5 to 0. They soon came back and scored 4 runs but we held them there and we won 5 to 4. we finished the day 3-0. On the way back to the condo I thought to myself, "We can make it to the championship." We won the next two games advancing to the finials. In the finals we faced the Crestview Diamond Dawgs a team that had already beaten us twice. Unfortunately we lost in extra innings 14-13, leaving the tournament 6-4.

  4. "Dad I don't know about this!!" I yelled.
"You will be fine Anna." He said.
    "Are you sure?" I questioned?
"Don't forget that I am sitting right by you, I will help you if you need it." He replied.
At that moment I was about to drive a golf cart over a bridge at our farm. I have never done this. I have driven the golf cart, just not over this bridge. This was very scary, but I know I could do it. So I started going over it.
My Dad said, "Slow and easy." That is exactly what I did. I went slow and easy and I made it across the bridge.
"That wasn't that bad," I said. My Dad and I just started laughing. Now I ride over that bridge so easy. Thanks to my Dad. Now I can cross the bridge to get somewhere without being scared.

  5. If I were to choose a small moment from my summer then it would be when I was at Camp Rockmont, when we were on our camping retreat and I had Jambalaya for the first time. We were finishing up a backpacking trip when we came to a little campsite. There were already people there preparing dinner for us, there were also little domes where we would sleep. I was happy to be finished with the hike because right now we were on a two night camping trip. We had to hike up eight miles so that we could get to the top of a mountain so we could see a beautiful view of the camp. But, it was really hard and we were all worn out from the hike. Then the people who worked there introduced themselves and said that they would call out cabins to go get dinner. So we all found places to sit down. I talked with my friends (we talked a lot about how hungry we were). Also, my stomach was giving me a feeling like I hadn't eaten anything in days. "I am so so hungry, when are they going to call our cabin?", I asked.
"I know I am also very hungry!", my friend Colston exclaimed. While we were waiting I remember a counselor named Johnathan
saying, "This is so good!"(this made me feel a little bit hungrier). Then finally they called Cabin 17 (my cabin). So I rushed over and they just gave me one thing to eat, Jambalaya. It didn't look that great but everyone was saying it was great and my stomach was throwing me around like a doll so I figured I'd give it a shot. Then I tried it. It was amazing, it was sweet and strong in taste. The beans tasted great, the chicken was perfect, and the rice was filled with tomato flavour.
I shouted, "this is so good!" All of my friends agreed. It may seem like a food can't be a very good small moment, but anything can be so great that it is put into a story. That is my small moment.

  6. My Small moment is from when I went to Camp Rockmont and going on a huge hike up a Beutifull Mountain called Eden Rock. At first I was very scared because the Day before My friends Sky, Crawford, and I had a little run in with some bears when we were coming back from lacrosse. But I was overall Excited when we started hiking it was great but a few hours after hiking things began to fall apart literally! Alex Who you know is my Great friend and we decided to be "Battle Buddies" as my counselor called it. So we are hiking and we are almost to our campsite and we come upon this huge up hill battle. With Alex infront of me and a 45 pound bag on my back going on a wet uphill strech everybody slips a little but going through these massive trees Alex and I both slip back a little and both fall on our knees Alex told me he was fine but my knee was pretty banged up but i didn't care so we just kept going.Until we reach the river crossing and our Tribal Dierector AJ told us to jump over. I though you must be crazy it was a 4 foot wide covered in soaking wet moss. And just like many time Alex and other people proved me wrong they all did it no sweat so I thought it can't really be that hard so I jogged and took a leap and wouldn't you know one of my feet on the rock the other soaked. They were bright blue before now there pitch black. Then we got to our campsite witch was super close at that point I drained my shoes and had to were chacos the rest of the day. we ate some delicious jambiliaha for dinner and had some s'mores. This is my (Funny)small moment

  7. This summer my family and I went to Croatia. We had to fly a lot to get there, but it was worth it when we got there. Croatia is a beautiful country and a very small country. The first day we bike 20 miles around a very small island and stayed in an old palace. We did a lot of biking and hiking on that trip my favorite art was when we jumped of the boat and swam in the ocean for a while. I met a lot of great people and did a lot of fun activities. Hopefully everyone had a great summer!

  8. This summer I went to sleep away camp for the first time so I have lots of stories to tell. One of them took place on a canoe, I love to canoe so I obviously took it as an activity. One day as I was casually canoeing with some of my now close friends. (I was in the middle in my Crazy Creek) I heard a loud shriek from behind me. I turn around to see the girl's who was steering the boat, face completely in fear, she is pointing to the inside of the boat a few inches away from me. Right there is a huge, probably 5 inch long, wolf spider. Now let me tell you right now that I am not very fond of spiders. In my mind all I can think is maybe if i don't move it will go away, but as i slowly moves toward me I don't even know what to do for I had been instructed very clearly NOT to stand up in the canoe. Everyone in the class is staring at me as the wolf spider slowly crawls onto my Chaco and slowly up my shin. I am frozen in fear and so are the girls in my boat so no one offered me a paddle to get this 5 inch spider off my leg. Everyone just sat there for a minute or two with the spider on my kneecap until one of the counselors realized what the problem was. She slowly canoed towards me, took her paddle, scooped up the spider and put it on the bank. From then on I have had a deep hatred for wolf spiders.

  9. This summer I went to the Nantahala Outdoor Center. My family and I decided to do a whitewater rafting trip. It was about a 30 minute drive to the put in on the Nantahala. Once we got there, we got on the rafts and started down the river. There were a lot of spots where the water was calm and some where there were wild rapids that would splash cold water all over you. After about 2 hours we were nearing the end of the river, but then we were at Nantahala Falls. I felt a splash of fear as I remembered the video the NOC had showed us before we drove to the put in. It was all about the falls and how dangerous the were. They also take your photo when you go over the falls. We were approaching the falls. I felt my stomach drop as I looked over the falls. A few seconds later, we were going over. CRASH! The second we hit the water our raft was completely submerged into the freezing river water. Then we bobbed back up and paddled the raft over to shore. We got out of the raft and walked over to the photo viewing room, and there I was with a giant grin on my face. After that I walked to my Eno to relax. I exhaled to the thought I had just gone over the Nantahala Falls.

  10. This early June, I had started dive team for the 6th year in a row. I practised nonstop for two full weeks. Then the first dual meet came. And I thought I was ready. See, I had to learn a brand new dive (Front flip full twist) in those two weeks and make it perfect, and well thats kinda a really hard thing to do.
I'm waiting to go off for my first dive, I do it and I'm happy with my scores. Then I go off for my second dive, and i forgot to do the twist at the end. I get out of the water and hear,
"Incomplete dive." And right then I knew that I still had to do well with my last two dives. I walk over to where my teamates were, and i drop my face into my hands.
"I've never done that before!" I thought. I go off two more times and get impressive scores, but not enough to help me win. So then they call out 10th place, not me, then 9th, and well yeah its me. I almost cried cause ive never gotten 9th before. But you know what, i came back with 1st place the very week after that meet. So here is a tip of advise, never EVER give up just because you messed up. Go out there and show your competiters what they are missing.

  11. This summer my parents and I biked the mountain bike trails in Percy Warner park. It was my first time to ever mountain bike and it was VERY tough! There were so many tree roots and rocks I thought I was going to fall forward. At the very beginning, there were a series of little hills that went up and down. It was so fun! I felt like I was on a bumpy rollercoaster. But, just when I was beginning to have some fun, I came to the end of the hills. I stopped. Right in front of me was the biggest, steepest hill I'd ever seen. I did't know how I would ever make it. I began to slowly get off my bike and walk it up the hill. My dad was behind me. He seemed to have no trouble going up the hill. My dad realized I was struggling and got off his bike to help me. "Get back on and stand up on your bike," he instructed. I got back on but as I tried to stand, I started moving backwards. Luckily, Dad held my bike for me as I got settled. I pushed with all my might and slowly began to move up the hill. I was so proud of myself when I finally reached the top! I was breathless but proud. When we finished the trail, it felt good to know I had something to be proud of.

  12. This summer I went to sleep-away camp for the first time. There were many activities to choose from that sounded fun on the first day, but I decided that I wanted to try horse-back riding. When I got to the barn, the counselors gave me a quick lesson on riding, I grabbed a helmet, and walked out to a horse. I had chosen a boy, Silver, named for his silver coat. He was easy to steer, and very gentle. As we started on the trail, everyone quieted down, and we rode in silence, looking all around at everything. It was one of the most peaceful things I have ever done. It was in that moment that I truly realized the value of being out in nature and around animals. It really helps you grow as a human being, and realize the beauty of the world.

  13. Heat

"Alright. It's 8:30AM, and so it's time to get up." I whispered to myself.
I had been playing on my "Chrome Book," and didn't exactly want to get out of my warm, cozy, cuddly bed, but I had to get up early before it gets to be 100 degrees outside so I could play ball.
I slowly stood up and mosied on over to my dresser and picked out a basketball outfit.
I looked in the drawers for some clothes.
"Too pink. Too tight. Too hot. Ah! This one will do!" I announced. I picked up a shirt to the right of the drawer. "Now for the shorts." I picked up my black, NIKE, basketball shorts. "And now the socks." I closed the two drawers and opened another and pulled out a pair of NIKE socks. I dressed quickly and tiptoed to the playroom.
Don't wake up anyone, I thought as I walked through the living room. When I got to the playroom I slid on my old school shoes, filled a bottle of water, did my hair and got my ball. I looked at the time. 8:40.
"It should be nice and cool outside since I'm early," I muttered to myself. I stepped outside and was expecting nice cool air, but it was a million degrees outside already! "Well, that's that." I put down my water and went to the hoop in the driveway and started shooting. "Strong legs, elbow in and finish high." I repeated to myself as I shot. I shot until I made five shots on both corners, both elbows and the middle.
"Oh man I'm hot!" I said when I went and sat down in the grass. I chugged some fresh water. I felt like I was going to have a heart attack! My hair and shirt were soaked with sweat. There were big juicy drops of sweat run down my face, neck, back, arms and legs. It felt like the sun was beating down on me and frying me like a hotdog! I got up and got the ball. It was time for dribbling. First I dribbled in place. Figure eight, behind the back, between the legs, cross over, and the spider. I did each thing many times each. Next, cones. Two moves at each cone then the lay-up. Finally, power lay-ups. I made 10 on each side. By the time I was done I felt like I was going to pass out but, it was worth it! The heat can't beat me!

  14. "Owen it's time to get up!" My grandmother yelled from across the house.
It was a Saturday morning. Normally I would have gotten out of bed still half asleep and in my pajamas, but today was not a normal day. I sprung out of bed already dressed for the day. I ran to the kitchen to eat breakfast. I had a bagel with cream cheese and orange juice. After I ate i was told to make sure I had everything to leave. Today was the day I left to go to my favorite place on earth Camp Rockmont.
My Parents had left for a wedding in Wyoming on Wednesday. That meant my dad's friend Fred would have to take me. I was extremely nervous but I wouldn't let that keep me from going to camp. after I finished eating I made sure I had everything I needed to go to camp. A couple of minutes after that Fred showed up. I said bye to my grandmother and little brother and left for camp.

  15. ''Haven look at this,'' my mom said. I was on my way down on the old board walk to the beach. I turned around and my mom was looking at a dark green creature that was moving very slow. I walked slowly toward my mom carefully to see what the creature was. I saw my mom taking a picture and a saw it was a turtle. It was on the edge of the sand dunes about to go in. I ran to get my brothers and my dad. "DAD, HANK, WELLS COME HERE," I yelled to them. They all stared at me for a second and started walking fast to me. When they finally got here they saw us looking at the turtle. Everyone stood there watching the turtle go back to his home.

Later that day we saw a snake in the sand dunes. We decided to stay on top of the deck so nothing would happen to us. It was right were the turtle used to be. It was scary to think if we were standing there. Ever since that day I decided not to go play in the sand dunes were the snakes were.

  16. I felt the hot Alabama sun beating down on my face and thought how I couldn’t wait to get into the air conditioned building, that stood on Dolphin Island. My grandparent’s walked up to the counter to order our tickets. I bounced around with excitement, for I couldn’t wait to see the wonders behind two big black curtains. As soon as we had the tickets in hand I raced of to the entrance of the Sea Lab. As I walked in I saw all kinds of amazing creatures, from horseshoe crabs and baby jellyfish, to an octopus in the corner of the room! I walked over to the tank and studied the octopus. It was small but, very fast as it scurried up the side of the tank. I watched the suctions on it’s tentacles stick to the wall and then quickly pop off. The orange- redish head of the octopus looked like it was breathing! I was in awe of this amazing creature and how it moved. To this day I still fantasize over the wonders of getting to see a real live octopus!

I yell as I am on the jet skis. Today was Tuesday, we were in Florida. I was going jet skiing with all of my friends, including Louise, and family. I was so excited to get to go jet skiing! My mom was driving Louise and I. Our goal was to not fall off. We were flying and whenever we hit a wave we went high off the water, we yelled "That was awesome!" In the middle of the ride we got to see some dolphins in the water! They would come up and ride with the jet ski. I really wanted to pet the dolphin, but I didn't get to because they would go to fast. After that we got to go off on our own without the instructor's. We went off and got to experience a lot of fun things. We saw a massive house with a yacht. It even had its own part of water. After 30 minutes were up we went back to the jet ski loading area. I had such a great time spending time with my friends and family. I also had a great time riding the jet skis and seeing the dolphins!

  18. This summer I went to a sleep away camp for the first time. There were many fun activities that you could do. I chose paintball. I and a few of my friends got paired up on the same team. The first round our team lost. The second round, we won! In the final round we were winning when all of the sudden I ran out of my hiding spot and looked around and my friend Xzavian was with me. We hid behind a different spot when a another kid named Aiden shot Xzavian and I. We looked at Aiden and realized he was on our team. I looked down and realized where we shot me the paint hadn't splattered on me, which meant I am still in. We ended up winning the round. Later my friends and I met up and talked about when Aiden shot us. I realized that you need to pay attention to your friends, so that you know who looks like who.

  19. This summer, I volunteered at a mission camp through First Presbyterian. It was a 4 day long day camp, and we did something different each day.
On Monday, we worked in a mission garden, gathering vegetables for children and families in need. On Tuesday we visited Second Harvest Food Bank, and packaged breakfast meals for children in poverty. Overall we packaged 710 meals. On Wednesday, we volunteered at Loaves and Fishes, a place for the the homeless to eat for free on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We also handed out care packages there. Lastly, today we went to Stop Hunger Now, and washed dishes, as well as learning about how this organization sends food to other countries in poverty. We finished off our week by packaging 2,000 pounds (1 ton) of rice. This week has taught me many things, but especially to be thankful that I am fortunate enough to have plenty of food, a loving family, and a chance to go to such an amazing school.

  20. This summer we got three miniature donkeys. There names are Casper, Jelly Bean, and Gummy Bear. They are so small and are very nice. One day, we tried to feed them some medicine. We got the nicest one, gummy bear, his medicine. He was easy to catch! We then tried to get Casper and Jelly Bean their medicine but they kept running away. I decided to get a rope and try to lasow Jelly Bean. I got a rope ready to lasow Jelly Bean. I did it... I got the rope around it's neck and was holding on for my life as it was dragging me really fast on the grass. He took me for a quick, itchy ride. I had to let go or I was probably going to get hurt. It was a fail. My mom and my babysitter were so mad because they kept running away. This was a fun time trying to round up some donkeys.

  21. "Faster Faster!" I yelled
"Yeah! Go faster! " Owen yelled
    "FASTER!" Max screamed.
I was on the lake going tubing with my friends Max and Owen. I could hear the sound the sound of the motors going VROOOOM. We were at least going 20 miles per hour but we wanted to go faster.
    "Go faster!" Max yelled
But then we started to slow down. "What happened?" I asked. Hoping we could stay on.
Max's Grandfather answer with " We are out of gas."
They pulled us onto the boat.
"I have an idea lets get out of the boat and push it over to land," Max's dad said.So we all got out of the boat and pushed the boat to shore.
"Wait a minute" said Max's grandfather "We this land! We can walk to the house and get more gas!"
So he walked back to the house to get gas. And walked back. He filled the boat up with gas and we got back in the boat.

  23. On June 15th, I flew into a new country and a new experience. My grandparents, cousins and sister flew with me to Dallas, Texas, and then we went on a seven hour flight to Quito, Ecuador. From there we went to the world's first ecological airport in the Galapagos.
A few days into our trip, we suited up in our wetsuits to go snorkeling for the second time that trip. We rode 500 yards towards the turquoise blue water on a Zodiac, a small speed boat. I put on my flippers and my goggles. Just below I could see the colorful but blurry reef underwater. I sat on the edge of the Zodiac and fell backwards into the chilly ocean. I immediately saw a beautiful angel fish with brilliant, beautiful colors. I could hear muffled laughs from below the surface.
I turned around and saw small brown things darting through the water. They checked out everyone, and one swam over to me, and all of a sudden it hit me. "Sea lions!!" They were baby sea lions and looked ready to play. After taking photos of the angel fish and sea lions, I swam over to my group. I saw a fish that stuck out, and I went to get a picture of it. I took my snorkel out of my mouth and started to dive. Then a sea lion swam at me, and I expected for it to go straight down, so I lifted up my arm. The sea lion swooped up as fast as lightning. I did not have enough time to react, so he brushed up against my arm. It felt like a dog's shaved fur, really short and wet. It was kind of like a slick feeling.
Then we went into an underwater cave. When we came out of the cave, our naturalist spotted a stonefish, a one in a million fish find,a highly venomous fish. I don't have any other words for this amazing snorkeling expedition.

  24. This summer my family went to Africa.
We were in The Masi Mara Park in Kenya. Looking for a rhino for a couple of hours. Then all of a sudden the car took off! Abdul (our driver) said that their was a sighting of two rhinos.
Then finally my brother screamed,"I see it!!"
Then Abdul pointed, and there it was out in the distance two rhinos. Then the car took off "Lets get a better view." Abdul said so we pulled to the other side and they were so close! Then the female rhino stopped. It make a noise like it was about to charge. Then I realized we were in the rhino's path. Then the rhino started to charge ME!!! I screamed and my grandma pulled me back and Abdul took off saying our lives.
After 30 minutes or so I questioned myself WHY DID I SCREAM SO LOUD? RHINOS HAVE OUTSTANDING HEARING??
This was one of my favorite/scary parts of this two week adventure in Africa

  25. We were in the middle of a long hike in Glacier National Park. We were hiking on the side of a HUGE cliff!! My heart was pounding. But when I looked to the side, that was when I saw it. What I saw was the most incredible view I had ever seen. It had everything. It had waterfalls, glaciers, and a whole lot of mountains in the background. But the best part of all, was the crystal clear, blue lake. That lake was what made everything fit together. "That is the bluest water I have ever seen," I said. And then we spotted a moose swimming across the lake. "That moose is a really fast swimmer," I exclaimed. It felt like just one minute before that moose swam across the whole lake. I had a great time on that hike.

  27. "Okay, when you're ready." The two counselors said. On account of that Alex and his dad walked of the platform and went zooming towards the lake. They made a big splash, and the counselors at the other end undid their harness. "Next," the counselors on the platform said. It was our turn. Jack walked onto the platform and I followed. I was so nervous I could feel myself shaking. I waited for them to hook us on the giant zipline cable. I looked around, it was a sunny day at camp rockmont and I was there for the first time. From the platform I could see a lot of the camp. I saw the cooks preparing a picnic outside Eaden Hall. I could see kids jumping off the blob.
"Okay when you're ready," said the counselors. Those words snapped me out of it. With a rush of adrenalin I jumped off the platform with Jack not far behind. All my fear went away as I went down towards the lake.
"Woooooohhoooooo," Jack was shouting behind me. And then we hit the lake "SPLASH!" I caught my shoe which came off almost as soon as we hit the water. And I lost my wristband.
"That was so fun!" Jack shouted with excitement.
"Do you want to go again?" I asked.

  28. This summer I went to sleep away camp for three weeks. I was swimming, hiking, climbing, and biking. I had singed up for a two day hike. My friends Emily, Sarah Kate, and Lulu went to. We rode in a van all the way there. The car ride was two hours, but we had so much fun. When I took a look at the mountain I knew it would be a challenge, but i knew I could do it. 29. OUT OF WHAT?!!???!?
    By Mary Virginia

“WE’RE WHAT?!?!” I yelp. I glance around to see seven faces, each wearing the same expression as I am.
“Mary V, are you DEAF?” Lila sobs, “We’re out of-”
“OUT OF WHAT?!!???!?” I exaggerate my words, stabbing each one harder than the last. I run towards the shower house barefoot, blocking out the calls from my cabin mates.
I slam the door behind me and frantically turn every sink handle I can find. Nothing works. I run to the showers and do the same. I finally collapse on the tile floor, dizzy and exhausted.
I probably laid there for over an hour, when I then heard Lila’s footsteps on the patio. She cautiously opens the screened door and sits down beside me, feeling just as perplexed as I am. I feel my brain exploding with questions, thoughts, and just meer confusion. We lay on the bathroom floor for what seems like forever, when I finally speak up,
“We are out of water,” I tell myself softly, as if trying to believe it.
“We are out of water,” Lila repeats, still staring off into space.
She bites her lip, “I don’t know if you heard this, Mary V, but we are out for a week,” I close my eyes. This whole week I have to deal with no showers, no water, and no toilet. I suddenly get this query feeling in my stomach, like I just ate three mexican burritos or something like that.
“Have you heard anything about the bathroom dilemma?” I ask uncomfortably
“Either walk three miles to Pineview, or the woods.” Lila replies. I sort of “fake” smile, and nod my head,
“Greeaattt.” I announce a little louder than planned, “Just great.” I grind my teeth and try to put my thoughts aside. This is going to be a very long week.

  30. This summer I did lots of fun things. Most of favorable things happen at the beach. We had left to go to Watersound beach, to stay at my grandmother beach house. My family loves the beach, so we come a lot! We are kind of all used to the lizards, frogs, fish, jellyfish, etc. One day my family was just sitting on the beach. My mom and I were reading and my dad and sister were playing. I had my eyes glued to the paper, and I heard mommy, mommy look. I looked up to see my sister running towards us with a net. As she was running, she was also slinging sand everywhere. She reached us and was dripping sand and water all over my book. When I looked in the net there was a giant purple starfish. It almost looked like it was cover it beads. It was so pretty that I decided to get up and try to find more. There was a big section of the water that had a top of seaweed. There was starfish all in it, and a ton a sea cucumbers! This summer I did and saw a lot of fun things. I that was just a tiny piece of it.

  31. I did so many fun things this summer. one of my favorite things was my birthday. For my birthday my dad's side of the family came over for dinner. For dinner we had steak, squash, and rolls. Mom and Dad were getting dessert ready. After dessert we were going to open presents after dessert, but Reid and I couldn't wait. We went up to Mom and begged to let us open our presents. She told told us to ask Dad if it's ok. We did and he let us open our presents. I got a whittling set and a whittling book, and Reid got some pokemon card decks. Then we had chess and peanut butter pie for dessert. It was time for everyone to leave. It was also time for Reid and me to go to bed. Then the door opened. everyone had come back. Someone's house had caught fire and firetrucks were blocking the road. It was going to take a while for the firetrucks to move. After a while Reid and I asked if we could open our presents from our parents and from each other.( We were going to open them earlier but Dad had work.) Mom and Dad said we could. I got a fondue pot from Reid, and more whittling stuff from Mom and Dad. I gave Reid a pokemon card binder, and Mom and Dad had already gotten him camping supplies. After a while the road finally cleared up and everyone went home.

  32. My favorite thing this summer was learning to sail. I had been wanting to learn to sail for 2 years. My mom and my dad came to my sailing lesson. My instructor's name was Taylor. We were sailing a 420 sailboat. It was about 16 feet long with 2 sails, a Main sail and a Jib sail in front. I was controlling the jib sail. When we got out on the water we started heading to a big white bouy floating in the distance. My dad started out using the Tiller to steer (the Tiller is a long rod attached to the rudder which turns the boat). We were going really fast with to sails and a lot of wind so we got to the bouy in a few minutes. Now we were going to turn back the way we came. My dad turned the tiller really fast and I didn't have time to pull The Jib sail in so we started to flip. I was pretty nervous because I might get tangled in one of the ropes. I fell out onto the sail and swam to the back side of the boat. We had to stand on the center board and pull the boat back up. It slowly flip right side up. We headed back to shore and docked up next to the rest of the sailboats. I had the best time of my life.

  33. Boom! Boom! Boom! The bell rang which meant it was time to go to archery. I threw away my candy wrapper and soda can and I started to run to archery. At archery the counselor said, "Group two goes first this time." I then walked up to the bow and arrows. The counselor then blew his whistle so we could shoot now I loaded my bow and then I fired. My arrow hit the white. One point. I fired again and missed. Then I missed again. Then I took careful aim and I hit the bullseye. I was so happy. I then hit the red next to the bullseye. Eighteen points total. I'll never forget shooting the bullseye at Camp Laney.

  34. One of my favorite things I did this summer was go to the Healing Springs at The Homestead in Virginia. I was on a trip for my grandparents anniversary with all my extended family. The springs would heal you and make you look younger. Almost my whole family went, even my grandparents. We looked for crystals and other different types of minerals at the bottom, too. We also played games with my younger cousin. Lastly, we had to go back to the resort to go get ready to see my great-grandparents. I had so much fun that day with my family.

  35. “ Hurry up! We are not going to make it!”, I told my dad as we ran to get on the Cliff Swinger in Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Colorado. When we got to the gate of the ride, We could see the pretty Mountain View, full with Aspen trees and many green bushes. “Are you sure you want to do this? It looks very nerve-racking!” my dad said trembling, as we walked to sit on the bright green swing. The ride started up, and all I could feel was butterflies. “Yeah, I am sure!” I exclaimed. As we went higher and higher, I tried not to look down, because if I look down I see a cars that look like ants, and a rocky cliff. When I was above land, it was awesome, but when I was above the cliff I felt like I was going to die. Hopefully at the end of the ride I will be at the same elevation as I was before. I could not wait till the ride was going to be over. Finally, the ride was over, and I was safe and sound! “I'm never doing that ride again!”, said my dad as he walked to the exit with fear. I thought that ride was pretty cool, I said to myself. I had so much fun with my dad on that ride!

  36. This year I went to Beaver Creek Colorado with my family and friends. We had just got back to our rental house from a seven mile hike. Our friends were looking at the hike guild and I was relaxing. When all of a sudden my families friends started to freak out. When I asked them what was wrong they said that the seven mile hike was supposed to be four. Then we all started to freak out until we were to tired to freak out. After that we all took a nap.

  37. One of my favorite things this summer was going to sleep away camp. This year was my 5th year at camp .One of the reasons I love going to camp is seeing all my camp friends that I do not get to see all year long, and I love coming back and reconnecting with all of my friends. This year was my favorite year because I had a great counselor and great people in my cabin.

  38. This summer I went to sleepaway camp for two weeks. It was my 5th year at this camp. One evening my counselor said we were going on a campout so we got our sleeping bags and walked down to a field. We set up our stuff and sat around the fire and told stories. Our counselor made chili over the fire. After dinner my counselor said, "Go get cardboard out of my car and follow me." We walked a little bit then we stumbled upon a cave. We set up the cardboard on the ground and put our sleeping bags on top of it. I was surprised and excited that we were spending the night here. Spending the night in a cool dark cave is a lot of fun. It was a very memorable experience.

  39. “Disney Magic”
    By: Ruby Wolter

“Wow!” I said to my parents, “this has been the best day ever!”
“Yep!” Said my sisters Violet and Georgia, agreeing with me.
“Well girls, my Dad said our wonderful day in Disney does not end here…”
“We are now going to see the most magical part of disney world… the fireworks!” My Mom finished.
I was so excited about seeing the fireworks I could not stand still. This summer in late May we went to Walt Disney world for the first time! Other than the awesome rides, the thing that I have been most excited about are the fireworks!
“45 minutes until the fireworks...45 minutes!” A very perky voice that sounded like Tinker Bell announced.
“Yay 45 minutes!” I heard practically every person in the park yell including myself.
My sisters and I kept our minds off of waiting by putting together all of the glow sticks my mom brought with her for us to wear when it got dark.
“A little later the same extremely perky voice said, “30 minutes until the fireworks...30 minutes!”
We got out our cooler of food containing nuts, grapes, Twizzlers, and some granola bars. We all went for the Twizzlers of course.
“10 minutes!” The voice over the loudspeaker announced.
By now everyone else in the park was getting almost as impatient as me. Tiny babies were crying and little kids were whining.
Finally at 10:00pm when the fireworks were supposed to start, there was a disappointing announcement… The same now not so perky voice said, “ Due to weather conditions, the firework show will be delayed until further notice.”
I yelled a dramatic “Noooooo!” and kept reminding myself that I was standing in front of the Magic Kingdom castle and I should not be as impatient.
Finally, “The moment you have all been waiting for...Walt Disney World presents to you the magic Kingdom Firework show! The show was so amazing I could not believe it! There were red, pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, gold, and silver beautiful, amazing fire works! This was the disney magic that I was hoping for during that show!
That moment reminded me something very important, to alway look at the bright side. For example I was so upset at the weather delay that I didn’t even stop and remember that I was in the most magical place on earth.

  40. This summer I took a trip to Canada. This was my first ever going to Canada and out of the states. I was so excited I almost peed my pants. We flew to Seattle then drove to Canada. when we got there we went to Whistler. At Whistler we went mountain biking. We moved from greens to blues pretty quick. On my first blue looking down made my heart start pumping and my stomach start aching.
"I can't do it" I exclaimed to my dad. All I was thinking about was that I would fall and hurt myself really bad.
"You can do it" he said. by him saying that I really thought I could do it.
"Lets do it" I exclaimed. going down I was thinking I can do it. At the bottom of the hill my dad said "I knew you could do it."

  41. “Ahh! Here comes a big one!” my dad screams just as a huge wave slams into my back.
“I think that was the biggest one of the day!” I yelled over my shoulder. It was our second day at the beach and my dad and were having the time of our lives in the water. I especially enjoy when he picks me up and throws me into the biggest wave he can possibly find.
The sun was shining and the waves were enormous! Even though the water was pretty chilly we were still having a blast.
“Whoohoo! Yi---” suddenly our yelps were drowned out by a loud scream. I turned around and saw a girl around my age crying and pointing to someone in the water. I looked to where she was pointing and became a bit confused. She was pointing at a man in the water. It seemed as if he was in a great deal of pain. My dad had seen the same thing I had and told me to get out of the water. As I got out I moved in a rather rapid fashion. When we were fully out one teenage boy ran to the man carrying a breathing tank. Another man went running after him bringing a life vest. They both eventually reached the man and shouted for other people to help them get the man to safety. Once he was on the sand he wasn’t moving. I think my heart my heart might have skipped a beat and the girl who had pointed to him first was crying and screaming very loudly. It turned out that the man hurting was her dad. A few moments later one of the men who had helped her father was telling her to go get something. She ran to their bag and brought back a box. In the box was food. We found later that he was diabetic and so that explained why he had needed it. In the midst of all this we were starting to hear sirens coming from all around. The ambulance and the fire engine were there. They all rushed to the man’s side and helped all they could. The man eventually sat up so we were pretty sure that he was going to be alright.
Meanwhile the man from the ambulance came over to where my dad and I were standing and told us that the man had almost drowned. He was trying to help his wife steer clear of the riptide but ended up getting caught himself. He told us to have strong caution and to warn other people about what had happened so they wouldn’t do the same thing. We thanked the man and decided not to get back in the water. Our second day at the beach was definitely not what we had expected it to be.

  43. “Nah nah nah boo boo, you can’t catch me!” My brother Henry repeated for the millionth time. We were in North Carolina, and taking an evening stroll. My siblings and I were having fun playing a game of tag, and my parents were admiring the beautiful scenery.
About 20 minutes into the walk we came upon a very steep hill. When we reached the top out of breath, I nearly fainted.
15 feet away from us was what looked liked a big fuzzy black dog; but it wasn’t. It was a black bear cub.
“Run.” My Dad whispered. Immediately I sprinted down the hill bawling my eyes out. My sister Campbell was in front of me, on her knees praying. I looked at my surroundings wondering where our rental home was. Behind me was 3- year old Henry trying to run, and my mom and dad holding up the caboose. As I was running, a thought came to mind; where ever the baby is, mama’s there too. These words ran through my head many times. We were very lucky we didn’t make eye contact with Mama bear.
“Vee, wait up,” Henry hollered. “You're running way too fast!” I simply turned my head and shouted, “Henry, you better get up and run, because a bear may or may not be chasing you.” He sat up straight, got off of the pavement, and began to run.
About a quarter of a mile later, we reached our rental home. When we went inside we shut all of the windows, locked all of the doors, and flopped onto the couch. We all looked at each other for what felt like 5 minutes. The my Dad burst out laughing.
“That was AWESOME!” he shrieked. My family and I agreed. Even though the thought of seeing a wild bear is scary, it was pretty fantastic to see something so well. The night came to an end and all was okay. Let's just say no one got a good night’s rest that night!

  44. "ahhh!" I screamed as my dad starts the boat to move all the way to the left. I was on a tube with my sister at crystal lake. The water was dark blue, and I could see the sand at the bottom of the lake. Then boom, we go over a huge wave as the boat starts moving super fast. My dad was driving the speed boat we rented for the day. My sister, Maddy next to me cracking up as I am screaming my head off. She leans over to me and says, “it’s okay.”
I respond, “okay.” The waves crash in front of me as I begin to shake in fear. I look over at Maddy who is still laughing.
“It’s fine Mia.” The voice inside my head is like ok, I can do this. It will be fun. The boat started going faster, and my heart was racing. The waves become so choppy and want to stop, but I keep going. As I went more and more I began to like it. I am so glad that I didn’t stop. If I had stopped I would have never realized that I loved tubing. I could not have done it without Maddy by my side there to support me. I am so glad to have a sister like Maddy.

    1. OMG Mia, I love tubing. My family and I always go to the lake. I love tubing, But sometimes it is so scary. Like once it was so dark, and we were doing a double tube. Everybody was jumping to tube to tube, and for some weird reason my brother thought it would be a great idea to fly the tube. That means he gets the air and gets it somehow under the tube, and flies it!!! That was probably the most scariest moment of my life. It was dark, I was flying, and crashing into wavs.

  45. This summer I played travel lacrosse for a team named No Excuse. This was my fourth year playing for this travel team. This year we traveled to Birmingham, AL, Louisville, KY, and right outside of Nashville. The tournaments were really fun and it was cool to meet new friends and hang out with them. I was one of the youngest kids playing for my age group. Also I got to learn new things that would improve my game. When you play on a travel team it make your teammates feel like family. I am so glad I had this experience and and can't wait to play again next summer.

  46. “AAAHHHH!!!” my neighbor screamed as he jumped off the rock and landed in the water.
Now it was my turn. I walked up to the ledge and saw how high up we were. I started to get nervous and thought “Do I really want to do this?”
“Come on!” my neighbor yelled to me from the water.
I stood there thinking to myself about all of the good and bad possibilities that could happen. Finally, I walked back onto the ledge, closed my eyes and jumped.
“WOAH!!!” I screamed while I was in the air for what felt like hours, but was really only a couple seconds.
When I came out of the water, I thought to myself “Wow, that was one of the best things I have ever done.”
It was so fun that I did it over and over again. The second time I jumped, it was even better because I close my eyes and walked off, not knowing when I would walk off. The second time it was much scarier, but much more fun.
Out of all of the amazing things I did this summer, jumping off the rock at Rock Island the most amazing things I did this summer.

  47. This summer I got to go to San Diego. While I was in San Diego went to Sea World, and to the USS Midway.
At Sea World I got to do many things and I think Sea World was a great experience for my family and I for many different reasons. While we were at Sea World the most amazing thing happened and that was watching the killer whale show. I also really liked the rides, especially the Manta the number one rollercoaster in Sea World I also think it was the fastest rollercoaster I have ever been on. I really loved that I got to touch and pet a real life shark, and feed a sea otter.
When I first saw the USS Midway I thought that there could never be a ship that big and still be able to float. When I got inside I went straight up to the flight deck and I saw so many planes and half of them I could sit down in. When I started to look around more I saw that you could go up on top of the ship where you can see everything and I was amazed and when I grow up I wanted to go to the military right away but when my dad said that you had to stay out there for 6 months I changed my mind right away. Going to San Diego changed my world and my experience with history, and imagination. I hope I can go back next year.

  48. This summer, I went to Dollywood

I was waiting in the line for the fastest rollercoaster there, with my friend. It was only my seventh rollercoaster in my life. It’s spread was seventy miles an hour. "Hey" I said, "Can we just go, ok?"
"Not a chance" My friend said. I felt like I was going to throw up when the roller car flue up. My friend started pushing me forward. I got on.
When I sat down I instantly grabbed the buckle, and buckled it. I looked over at my friend and made a fake smile. She smiled back. Then a man asked if everyone was ready. We all said yes and we were off, but then I saw it.
The next thing that happened was the turn. We went upside down and made a tight turn. I felt like I would fall out! There were more and more crazy ternes and figure eights. After the first few crazy ternes I got used to it and ended up smiling the whole time.
When we got off we told our parents how it was! We both managed to walk straight through to was hard. We spent the rest of the day in the pool that is at the hotel. It was probably the best day of my summer!

  50. July was sweltering in Cocoa Beach, Florida. It was so hot you could not even walk on the sand. I was there for the 5th grade AAU Basketball National Championship. I played for Team Swish from Chicago, and our team was ranked #4 in the country all year. We had all trained and practiced every day for a year for this tournament. AAU Nationals is where the best of the best from all over the country come to compete in a week-long, winner takes all tournament. We kept winning and winning, and even beat the #2 team in the country in the process. However, after a celebratory team dinner, many of our players got food poisoning. Four of our team's starters, including myself, were in a local hospital all night. After a few hours of IV fluids and lots of medicine, the hospital discharged me at 6:30 a.m. Our next game tipped off at 10:20 a.m., and we had an important game to play. My dad always says, "The great ones like Michael Jordan played sick and even hurt sometimes." So we arrived at the gym, laced our shoes, hit the court, and started to play...

  51. “Follow me guys,” said Drew, our pilot. This summer I was on an Alaskan cruise with my grandparents. We were on our way to take a ride to a glacier in Alaska.
“Wow I have never been in a helicopter!” I gasped.
“ It is about to get a lot better Thomas because you are flying co-pilot. How does that sound?” asked Drew. I could not believe it, my first helicopter flight and I get to ride co-pilot!

When we were getting ready for the flight they gave us headphones so we could talk to each other and have our ears protected from the loud propellers. We finally lifted off and to my surprise, we went backwards. After about five minutes we got to where we could see the entire city of Juneau. It was a breathtaking view.

About two minutes later, we landed on the glacier. We got out and walked around to find out what was there. It was like a desert. There was ice for miles and miles. The ice sparkled blue in the sunshine. The ice was only about 100 years old. When I got back, I was still thinking about how vast and awesome it was. It is a memory I will remember forever.

  53. This summer I went to a camp cold "Camp High Rocks." I went with Gus and Hudson. Tonight was our chill night which meant we got to go to sliding rock and Dolly's, the best ice cream place ever. After what felt like forever, we got there. The water was roaring and people were screaming as they slid down it. We walked down to the base of it and stepped in the water. It was cold, ice cold. We walked up to the part where you slide down and saw the people's faces when they went down. I couldn't wait. I did a train with Hudson which is where you hold on to each other and slide down. We hit the water. My breath completely abandoned me and left me gasping for air. It was awesome. I did four more times, but then we had to leave. All good things come to an end, but at least we got Dolly's. Sliding rock was probably the highlight of my camp session and I can't wait for next year.

  54. Over the summer my whole family went to Orlando, Florida. We went to lots of amusement parks such as Busch Gardens, Daytona lagoon, and Sea World. On Friday it was my birthday so, of course I got lots and lots of birthday wishes. The first thing we did on my birthday was went to the Nike outlet. Once we went into the store one of the employees asked, "Is there anything that I can help you find today?" "No thanks we are just looking." replied my mom. I begged my dad to get everything that I liked and since it was my birthday he said ok. I was excited. Since the Olympics were coming up I decided to get some team USA clothes. I got a shirt, shorts, socks, and red shoes. When we got back to the resort My cousin and I went swimming as the time went on, we had to get out because someone had thrown up in the pool. We had to wait for them to clean it up. Honestly I didn't want to get in the pool but there was nothing else to do. We played with the basketball float that we bought the day before. We had lots of fun. When my grandma called me from the balcony of the room we had to go upstairs. Later that day we went to a restaurant for my birthday and most of the servings were sea foods. It was really good but, I couldn't finish it. This is when it happened my dad gave me the bag I felt a box then I felt the box vibrate and I knew it was a phone. My parents got me an iPhone 6s in the color silver I was very excited. It was time for the cards. I got a card from everyone also my little cousin and he used his own money. At the end we counted and it added up to $181. I also got a cupcake from the waiter and they sung happy birthday. This was the best day of my life because I got my first phone. I told everyone I loved them and loved the. I had a blast in Orlando and I'm looking forward to another family vacation.

When we got there my mom said ok lets make a big circle around the whole mall since the mall is circular. So we went to a couple who places first and we did not buy anything from them. Then we went to Steve Madden which is a who store. We walked in and I saw a pair of shoes that I had been looking for for weeks! I told my mom and she said, "do they have your size?"
lets see here five in a half no six in a half yessssssss! so we bought them. I wore them for the rest of the day. Next we went to a couple of clothes stores they had nothing that caught my eye. Then we came to Aeropostle for girls. Everything in that store was sixty percent off! I was looking and my mom said, "Look at this adorable sweater!"
I saw it and it really was adorable! It had pink purple and grey stripes! So I bought it. Then we walker up to gigs cupcakes we bought four cupcakes four my family. At last Bath and Body Works. We picked four soaps for our bathrooms. before I new it the shopping spree was over. I am looking forward to next year.

  57. “It’s about to break down, If I turn the engine off, it won’t start again,” Hayden yelled. She moved the waverunner towards the dock. Jack hopped off and I jumped right on. We started speeding up by the second and we were out into the middle of the slue in no time. The engine was having problems, and was starting and stopping repeatedly until it finally came to a big stop. My cousin tried to start it but the waverunner wouldn’t start. We were screaming at the top of our lungs for Gee and Pop to come get us in the pontoon boat. They heard us but wouldn’t hurry up. I wondered what would happen if we had to stay out in the middle of Lake Martin for half an hour. I was still yelling when Hayden turned on the engine and shot across the water. I almost fell off the back, but somehow I managed to grab both of the old dirty rope handles. She slowed down to make sure I was back on securely and then she went full speed to the dock.We made it back and docked it for one last time.
“That must have been the last ride of the 21 year old waverunner” Gee said, “The waverunner has been fun all this time, but now I am going to have to say, this waverunner has seen better days.” The waverunner now isn’t working, but I have always had fun riding the waverunner ever since I was 5 years old.

  58. “Are you gonna go?” I asked my friend Avery Ann.
“Yeah I think so ,” She replied a little timidly.
I looked at the big line that hanged above the cannon. The harness that hanged from my waist felt heavy. My hand where sticky. I could see the green patch that was filled with evergreens. They harnessed me up to the line.
Everything seemed to stop for a minute I thought about what I was doing. Then I decided I just needed to go. My step felt light because I was I was being pulled by the line.
Finally, I took off I felt like I was flying I looked down and was not scared. Way before I wanted to I hit the other platform. Everyone else came across.
“That was so much fun,” I said to my Avery Ann.
    “I know right,” She said.
    “Were you scared?” I asked
“A little bit, were you?” She replied.
    “Not really,” I answered.
After I got over the height it was so much fun Zip Lining with one of my good friends Avery Ann.

  59. Pitter, patter, pitter, patter. The rain sounded off of the tin roof of the riding stables. I was at camp in North Carolina during one of my last days there before I was headed back to Nashville. It was raining and we weren’t able to ride today which was disappointing because that had already happened multiple times that session.
“Louise!” Elizabeth my riding instructor yelled over the rain. I snapped out of my daze and followed her over to where our group was standing. “Kate and Brooke go with Corinne to groom Cinderella,” Elizabeth said and they headed over to the pony's stable. “Avery and Mary Elise go with Eva to groom Dylan,” they followed Eva to his stable. I was the only one still there. “And Louise I have a surprise for you were grooming Cates,”
“Really?” I asked happily, that was the biggest horse in the barn and it's the horse that usually ride. She grabbed a grooming bucket and we headed to Cates’ stable. I put her halter on which was challenging because she’s so tall. Elizabeth showed me how to tie a quick release knot so Cates would stay in place while we were grooming her. I brushed her with a jelly scrubber all over and then I got the hard brush and got everywhere but her legs. Then i used the soft brush to finish it off. We were about to clean her hooves with the hoof pick but she noticed our class was over. “You have to go but before you do I have a treat for you stay here,” she walked out of the stable and down the hall and into the room where all the grooming equipment is. I was wondering what it was when she came back with something in her hand.
“Since its your last day you can give Cates a peppermint she loves peppermints!” she said while unwrapping he peppermint. She handed it to me and I stuck my hand out flat and put the peppermint in the middle of my palm I stuck my hand in front of her mouth. Her tounge tickled my hand as she took the piece of candy out of my hand.
I petted Cates soft nose “Bye Cates!” I walked over to Elizabeth, she gave me a hug and we both said bye to each other. “Thanks, Bye Elizabeth!”
“Bye” she said as I left the barn and headed down the gravel road.

  60. A small moment from my summer is the snorkeling adventure with my family on our big trip to Grand Cayman. I chose this moment because I had a good time snorkeling with my family in Grand Cayman. On my second day my family went snorkeling. I saw so many cool ocean animals. We got so far out that we saw neon fish, lobster, conch, jelly fish, sand dollars, and sting rays. When I saw the sting ray I was terrified and I screamed! My dad said, “What Sinclair?” I screamed, “STING RAY!” My family heard and then they saw it too! We followed it for a minute and then let it be. I also found a large dead sand dollar that I swam down over fourteen feet to get! I had never been snorkeling and it was a great first experience!

  61. A small moment from my summer was when I flew by myself for the first time. I woke up at about 10:45 and the first thing I did was put my clothes on and start to pack. At around 1:00 I was climbing into the car suitcase and all. Saying goodbye to my dad we sped off towards the airport. My flight was at 2:00 so we hurried through security and got a quick bite to eat. I said goodbye to my mom and boarded the plane. It was a full flight so I sat in the isle seat. And we lifted off the ground so I put my headphones on and read a book. It was only a hour and 30 minute flight. After reading about an hour they said we were making our final decent into Orlando so I packed everything up and just like that we were on the ground. So I got on the train and went back through security to meet my aunt on the other side. That was a small moment of my summer.

  62. A small moment of my summer was when I went down a huge rapid at camp. It was about a four foot drop and it looked scary. From my angle, I could just see the horizon line of the drop and could here the big swish of water at the bottom. My friends and I got out of our canoes and looked from a side angle on land and my heart skipped a beat, it looked so much bigger than I thought. After our counselor gave us a talk about the river and told us where to go down at, we got back in our boats. First the counselor named fritz went down and he seemed fine at the bottom, so that gave us all a huge relief so we all got ready. My partner and I got back on the river and paddled toward the rapid. I felt my heart pounding as we were paddling and my hands were shaking. My partner said to me, "Are you ready," and before I had time to answer, the tip of the boat shot down the rapid as the rest of the boat trailed. As I paddled I could here some thuds from rocks until finally, the rapid ended. "You did it," my friends said.

  63. One day this summer my mom came home and was on the phone. When she was finished I asked what the conversation was about . She responded and said I was talking to a friend and we might be getting a new horse. I was so excited because we did not have a horse that I was able to compute with and I would be able to compete with this one. A few days later it was my birthday my mum pick me up from camp and we went to go see the horse. The current owner let me ride the horse but I was not allowed to do anything other than walk because she was recovering from injury. After a few days my mom told my that we would be getting the horse. I was so excited and couldn't wait. When the lady can to Drop off the horse I could tell she was a little sad to let go but she was happy that she is getting a great new home. We walked around in my field and let her grows on the grass. She easily adjusted to our there horses. I think the lady who had given her to us and she left. I almost cried I was so excited. We gave her a bath and put her in her stall. Her name is lettie and I am so happy to have her.

  64. A small moment from my summer was when My family and I were in Utah and were about to fly home. It was about 5:15 and are flight was at 6:30. When we got there to board our bags we found out that the Southwest computer system was shut down. Then the gate attendant said that our flight had been canceled to Nashville. Later we we found out the next flight to Nashville was at 3pm the next day. The customer service helper said that we could drive to Denver that night then get on the plane at 6 in the morning, or we could stay in Utah till 3pm the next day. We weren't really thinking it would be that bad of a drive and we would get home earlier. So we got a rental car and went to Denver in the night. About one half hours in we realized it was a terrible decision. After we stopped to eat dinner at McDonald's. We kept driving and driving and we were still about two hours away when my parents called to check if they still had our room at the airport hotel and they said they didn't have our rooms booked. It was one in the morning and we just decided to to try and find a hotel out of about 15 hotels every one was fully booked. So we drove all the to Denver and got to the airport at about 4 in the morning. We finally borded the flight and finally got home to Nashville. It was a crazy ending to an awesome trip.

  65. A small moment this summer for me was when I was at Camp High Rocks. One day at camp me and my partner Hayden were getting ready to go on a canoeing trip to the Tuckasegee River. When we got on the river I was a little bit nervous for the first rapid. This rapid was called the Damn Rapid and it was four foot drop. When we got ready to go down the rapid I started paddling straight and as soon as I knew it we hit water below the rapid. I was so relieved that we did not flip and we were on the water. After Hayden and I went down the rapid we were each super happy that we made it and we wanted to do it again and again. I will never forget that moment at Camp High Rocks.

  66. A small moment in my summer was when I played putt-putt with my family in Maine. My grandparents have a waterfront house in Maine, and about every 2 years, we go there with my whole family. My family and I did lots of fun things like play in tidepools, go fishing, and visit some of our favorite restaurants. But one event that really stands out was playing putt-putt with everybody. It was a blast to play and talk to everyone. I even got 2 hole in ones! I also learned a very important life lesson. The man who run the course is named Lee. He was a professional mini golf player and is in the mini golf hall of fame. He is a very nice man and he cares a lot about how his mini golf course looks and whether it is clean or not. Every single day he is either blowing leaves off the holes or cleaning the sidewalk to get from hole to hole. His hard work payed off because the pro mini golf championships were played there last year which means it has to be nice. That outing was definitely one of my favorites of the summer.

  67. A small moment of my summer was when I went deep sea fishing with my friend. We enjoyed catching huge fish like snapper and trigger fish. I enjoyed watching the sun rise as we were leaving the dock. It was really cool because rarely do you ever get to see the sun rise on a boat in the middle of the ocean. when we foot off the dock a little bit we started to go as fast as the boat could go. In about 5 minutes their were Dolphins swimming behind the boat. We caught a lot of fish and we ate them for dinner that night they tasted good.

  68. "Is everyone strapped in," asked the man operating the massive ride. I was pretty nervous as I set foot on to the area where we get on to the ride. This ride had a big plethora of people waiting to ride. I started to wish I was at the back. I slowly got on and lowered the colossal safety bar. The music starts playing and the Cyclops starts to do its job. We start to spin a swing side to side getting higher and higher.
"This isn't to bad," I say to myself. Then ride goes super high and I am upside down and all over the place. It continues for about 3 more minutes then we got off.
"That was super fun," I proclaim to my friends.

  69. A small moment of my summer was when I went to my friends lake house. That day we went tubing on the lake. Then we went to a cliff 40 feet up high over the water in the middle of the lake. My brother, friend,me, and my friends brother all went. We jumped off the boat and swam towards the cliff rapidly. We all climbed up the cliff. My friend went first and jumped. Then my brother and my friends brother. Then I had to go I looked down and it looked as if it was a eighty feet tall. I asked my friend if it was scary. He said its not that bad. I backed up with confidence and ran and jumped. When I jumped my heart felt like it beating one thousand times a second! Then I hit the water and swam up. I thought it was more fun then scary.
